Managing Director - Early Stage Tech, Silicon Valley Bank
A co-founding partner of 500 Startups with 10+ years in the startup & tech community, Christen joined SVB in 2015 to be an advocate for early stage founders and ensure their voice is heard – from product development and marketing, to business development and UX.
Christen understands what it’s like to build a startup – in its early days, 500 Startups was a bootstrapped company with a tremendous vision, very few resources, and a lot of skeptics on the sidelines. Within 5 years, Christen helped build the firm to $150 million under management, 1,000+ investments, and a global network of 250,000+ tech startups, investors, and executives. 500’s investments have included Twilio, Credit Karma, GrabTaxi, Udemy, Ipsy, TalkDesk, Intercom, MakerBot (acq. SSYS for $400M), Wildfire (acq. GOOG for $350M), and Viki (acq. Raktuen for $200M).
Prior to 500, Christen founded a media company called reWired, and also spent several years at Dealmaker Media, a company that helped early stage founders with product-market fit, venture funding and pitch coaching, and worked with companies like LinkedIn, Box, Flickr, Atlassian, AdMob, Heroku, Loopt and Twilio.
Before her startup life, Christen was in the Peace Corps where she taught English to elementary students in Bulgaria. She studied Business and Communications at USC, lives in San Francisco, and enjoys spending time with her husband Paul and their incredibly spoiled Great Dane, Virginia Woof.
